According to data provided by his son, Arthur Herbert, the origin of the name follows - Viola Menn Clinger, wife of Arthur Espy, recalls that Aunt Donnie Newman Peterson had a boy friend named Espy. Grandmother, Frances Newman Clinger, liked the name. So, she gave it to Arthur.

Arthur married Viola Elfrieda Martha Menn on 9 Aug 1930 in Bishop, Nueces Co., TX. Arthur's occupations included Texas Highway Dept., farming, plumping and steamfitter. They lived in Beaumont, East Bernard, Rosenburg, Christine and settled in Bishop in 1946. They were members of the Baptist Church and later joined the Lutheran faith.

They had four children - Arthur Herbert; Norman Edmund; Clarice Viola and Vernon Virgil. All living except Vernon, who died 17 June 2006 near Edna, Jackson Co., TX.
