Actress. Born in Evansville, Indiana, she was one of the most popular Broadway musical stars of the 1920s and early 1930s. She was an accomplished tap dancer, singer and actress, whom appeared in productions of "Peter Pan", "The Show of Wonders", "Fancy Free", "Sunny" and "Look for the Silver Lining" which ran for 570 performances at the New Amsterdam, in 1921. She also was a leading lady for the Ziegfeld Follies which toured the nation and Europe. For feature films, she appeared in the screen versions of "Sally" (1929), "Sunny" (1930) and "Her Majesty Love" (1931). Her last Broadway show was in "Easter Parade" (1934) and at the time of her death she was the highest paid star on Broadway. She died in New York City, at age 37.
