Ross Davis, 47, brother of Ray Davis of Olney, was killed when a charge of dynamite exploded prematurely at an oil well on the D.L. Wolfe farm, 14 miles north of Olney.

The fatal blast occurred as a well Davis and Son had drilled on the D.L. Wolfe lease north of Lake Olney. The four men had gone to the well to pull pipe. To loosen the pipe at the bottom, they were preparing to lower a charge of dynamite but the dynamite exploded at the top of the well.

Services were held at the Archer City First Baptist Church officiated by Rev. E.G. Gregory, former pastor. Mr. Ross had been a member of the Archer City Baptist Church since 1936.

Ross Davs moved with his family to Archer County, Texas in 1927, where he was employed in various capacities by the Magnolia Petroleum Company for 17 years. Following retirement, he formed a partnership with his son, James Davis, and they entered the producing business, operating the lease where the tragedy occurred and another on the W.D. Pace land where he lives four miles northwest of Archer City, Texas.

Survived by his wife; two sons - James and Vernon of Archer City; one daughter - Mrs Ilene Goodman of Fort Worth; one brother - Ray Davis of Olney; four sisters - Mrs. Jessie Kollus, Mrs. J. A. "Estelle" Gillard, Mrs. Martha Neas, all of Fort Worth, Mrs. Lola Campbell of Dallas; three grandchildren.
