A memorial service is planned for Paul J. Filben, age 81, for Thursday, June 16th at 7 pm in the Gautrelet Room at Spring Hill College. Paul passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2011. Paul was a professional trumpeter, band leader, co-founder with his wife, Mary, of the Jewish / Christian Dialogue, and counselor for alcohol and drug addiction treatment programs. Paul and Mary volunteered with the Mobile Chapter of The Compassionate Friends and Anytown, an outreach of the National Conference for Community and Justice. He served on the Holocaust Education Committee for the State of Alabama. Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Arthur Cheshire Filben and his son, David F. Filben. He is survived by his sons Paul J. II, Philip J. of Mobile, and J. Christopher (Nancy) of Lafayette, Colorado and three grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jewish Christian Dia-logue, 4000 Dauphin St., Mobile, AL 36608 Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com.
