Clarissa Loretta Dean, daughter of Harvey Dean and Eliza Ann Wilkins, was born August 25, 1842, in Lima, Livingston County, New York. She died August 29, 1923, at Pardeville, Columbia County, Wisconsin aged 81 years and 4 days and was buried there in the family plot in the Comstock Cemetery. The cemetery is located at the junction of County Trunk EE and Comstock Road, 3/10 of a mile off of Highway 22, north of Highway 33 East.

On February 11, 1866, Clarissa was united in marriage to William Cummings Albee, by the Reverend S.A. Bliss at Marcellon, Columbia County, Wisconsin, in a ceremony witnessed by George W. Albee, brother of the groom and Charles Dean, brother of the bride.

William was born August 31, 1840, in New York, son of Hiram Albee born in Vermont and Mary Jane Barrett born in New York. He died December 10, 1926, at Pardeville, aged 86 years, 3 months and 9 days and was buried besides the remains of his wife in the Comstock Cemetery. Their known children born in Marcellon, Wisconsin, were:

The "Albee" gravestone in the Comstock Cemetery is inscribed "William C. Albee Aug. 31, 1840 Dec 10, 1926" and "Clarissa His Wife Aug. 25, 1842 Aug. 29, 1923." The family plot also contains two footstone inscribed "Mother" and "Father." A G.A.R. flagstaff holder and flag is next to the Father footstone indicating honoring William's service in the Civil War as a Sergeant in Company E of the 2nd Wisconsin Cavalry. Their daughter Eliza is also buried in the family plot. Her gravestone is inscribed "Mother Eliza Davis 1872 - 1938."


Mrs. Caroline Thwing died Saturday at her home in the village after an illness of double-pneumonia.

She was born in New York on Dec. 3, 1843, and when a child moved with her parents to Pardeeville, Wis., to reside. Here she was united in marriage with Nelson Thwing in November, 1858. They came to Minnesota, settling on a farm at Okaman. Later they lived in Janesville and Greenland. Mr. Thwing died in 1910, after which Mrs. Thwing came to Elysian to reside.

She is survived by three sons, Chas., Clarence and George. Four children preceded her in death, namely: Ida, Mrs. Cora Carpenter, Albert and Burt.

She fractured her hip April 5, 1933, and since that time she has been confined to her bed.

She bore her illness patiently, never complaining, but with a pleasant work for all. She was a member of the Relief Corps of the G. A. R. and a member of the Rebekah Lodge. Funeral services were held from the M. E. church Monday afternoon with the Rev. P. I. King officiating. Interment was made in Cedar Hill cemetery with short services at the grave conducted by the members of the Rebekah Lodge.

Those from away attending the funeral were Charles Thwing from Logan, Iowa, Clarence Thwing from Minneapolis, Mrs. Hazel Carpenter and two children from Le center, Frank and Jack Jewison, Tom, John and George Eustice from Janesville; Chris. Eustice from Waldorf; and Mrs. George Sutter from Waseca.
