Philippine Insurrection Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army in the 36th Infantry, US Volunteers. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action near Porac, Luzon, Philippine Islands on September 9, 1899. His citation reads, "In advance of his regiment, rushed to the assistance of his colonel, charging, pistol in hand, seven insurgents, and compelling surrender of all not killed or wounded."
In 1919, he was a Colonel in the U.S. Army and was the Chief of the Food Mission to Poland.
