U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Mansfield College Texas, in 1872, studied law in Grenada, Mississippi, was admitted to the bar in 1877 and proceeded to practice law in West Point, Mississippi. He was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1888, a member of the Mississippi State Senate, (1891-93) and United States Attorney for the northern district of Mississippi, (1893-96). In 1897, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-fifth, Fifty-sixth and Fifty-seventh Congresses, serving until 1903. Not a candidate for re-nomination. He was president of Mississippi State Bar Association in 1911 and engaged in the practice of law until 1914, when he retired.
