Knute Alfstad, son of Tosten and Marit Alfstad, was born April 7,1879 in Valders, Norway. In 1883, he came to America with his parents and settled in McHenry County.
Knute was united in marriage to Clara Halberg on April 22, 1901 at Fessenden. They had thirteen children.
He farmed for several years and moved to Sheyenne in the fall of 1925, where he had been employed by the state highway department until forced to retire a few years before his death on account of failing health.
Knute Alfstad passed away September 21, 1952 at his home, following a lingering illness.
Clara Alfstad passed away April 30, 1966. They are buried in the family lot in Eden Cemetery, west of Sheyenne.
The seven children who survived them are:
Minda Alfstad Smith-Married Philip R. Smith (now deceased) They had two daughters. Mrs. Smith now lives in Chicago, Illinois.
Gladys Alfstad Bouret-Married George C. Bouret (now deceased). Their two sons are now residing in Oregon. Mrs. Bouret is also now deceased.
Charles Alfstad-now residing in Oregon. Married Catherine and they had six children.
Lawrence Alfstad-passed away in 1967. Lawrence was a disabled war veteran.
Pearl Alfstad Kragerud-Married Orphy Kragerud (now deceased) and this union had six children. She now resides in Oregon. (Following Orphy's death, married Charles Jonas in 1973.)
Lillian Alfstad Mulligan-Married Charles Mulligan (now deceased). Mrs. Mulligan is also deceased.
Thelma Alfstad Steinhaus-Married Lester Steinhaus. There are eight children from this union. Mr. and Mrs. Steinhaus reside in Crary.
