She was born September 23, 1922 in Taylorville, the daughter of Charles and Clara Brown. She married Virgil Greffe on Feb. 4, 1967 at Bethel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Martha worked as a medical transcriptionist at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital for more than 30 years before her retirement. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Sharpsburg where she had served as treasurer.
She is survived by her husband; Virgil Greffe of Taylorville, IL; step-sons, Doug (wife Maryanne) Greffe of Phoenix, Ariz. and Dan (wife Debbie) Greffe of Tempe, Ariz.; four step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles (wife Vivian) Brown of Rushville, Ill. and Milford Brown of Taylorville; sisters, Ellen (husband Robert) Davis and Marilyn (husban Norman) Dixon both of Taylorville and Mildred (husband Robert) Garwood of Stonington; nine nieces and nephews; many great nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 8 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Shafer-Perfetti Funeral Home in Taylorville. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 9 at 10:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church at Sharpsburg with the Rev. Ted Marrinan officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Baptist Cemetery.
