FLORENCE - Mrs. Queen Elizabeth Miles, 86, of Lake City, SC, formerly of Lake of the Woods, Locust Grove, VA, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Monday, November 16, 2009.
Mrs. Miles was born in Florence County on August 25th, 1923. She was a daughter of the late Tasca Vance Bowers and the late Mattie Welch Bowers and was the widow of the late Jeremiah Miles. Mrs. Miles received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Coker College and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Duke University. She served United States Navy during World War II and was later employed with the Federal Government. Mrs. Miles was a Worthy Matron with the Martha Washington Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and was of the Episcopal faith.
Mrs. Miles' surviving family includes her six nephews, Dean Welch (Beverly) of Murrells Inlet, Alan Welch (Teresa) of Gaffney, David Welch (Susan) of Lexington, Jody Welch (Sandra) of Boling Springs, Donnie Bowers (Debbie) of North Charleston, and Rick Bowers (Tammy) of Summerville; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Miles will be held at eleven o'clock a.m. on Friday, November 20th, 2009 in the First Baptist Church of Florence. Burial will follow at one o'clock p.m. on Saturday, November 21st, 2009 in Laurel Hill Memorial Park, Spotsylvania, VA.
