Glen W. McClure, 87, retired Newton Fire Department Captain, died on Sunday (June 12, 2011) at Newton Medical Center in Newton.
He was born on July 29, 1923, near Goessel to Benjamin Harrison and Maggie Julia (Larsen) McClure.
A Halstead resident since 1978, he was a 1941 graduate of Walton High School and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 971, both of Newton, and Ruth-Wilson American Legion Post 231 of Halstead.
He served on the Newton Fire Department from 1953 until his retirement in 1977.
On Sept. 9, 1944, he married Gladys Ruth Westerman in Moundridge. She preceded him in death on Dec. 15, 1999.
Survivors include a son, James McClure of Halstead; a daughter, Virginia (Lee) Crawley of Strafford, Mo.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Richard and Lawrence McClure; a sister, Geraldine Voth; and a grandson, Ben McClure.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead, with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Kaufman Funeral Home. The Rev. James Anderson will officiate.
Burial will follow at Mound Township Cemetery in Moundridge.
