Robert Baxton Best, Sr., 73, of Falmouth, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2005, at his residence. Born on February 13, 1932, he was the only child of the late Hoyt Burns and Genevieve Stith Best. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky, a member and deacon of the Falmouth Baptist Church, a charter member of the Kincaid Lake State Park Board of Directors, and a businessman in Falmouth, where he owned and operated an insurance and real estate company for 45 years.
On June 14, 1953, he married Wilma Ammerman Best, and his wife preceded him in death on June 20, 1989. In addition to his late wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jillian Moorhead. He is survived by: two daughters, Denise (Jeff) Dean, of Falmouth, and Diane (Roger) Moorhead, of Falmouth; one son, Robert (Rita) Best, Jr., of Falmouth; eight grandchildren, Bryant Dean, Anna Dean, Brandon Moorhead, Todd Moorhead, Andrew Moorhead, Nikki Best, Matthew Best and Rebecca Best; and his fiancé, Goldie Barnes.
Services were held on Monday, April 18, at Falmouth Baptist Church, with Rev. Don Mays officiating. Interment followed in the Riverside Cemetery in Falmouth. Pallbearers for the service were Jeff Dean, Roger Moorhead, Bryant Dean, Brandon Moorhead, Todd Moorhead, Andrew Moorhead and Matthew Best. Music was shared by Darryl Ammerman. Woodhead Funeral Home served the family. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Falmouth Baptist Church Youth Group or the Kincaid Lake State Park Board.
