They were married by Rev. C. A. Hude of Peterson. Beverly Kass and Francis Duke were their attendants. Their first home was the Tolle farm now operated by Dean Brugman, the John Heick farm, the Shumway farm and finally the place where they now live and have lived for 32 years. It's the place where Helena's mother Delle Pierce Borland and all of her brothers and sisters were chldren. The old house still stands, being used as a hog house. New buildngs were built on this place starting in 1914-1920. A barn dance was held to welcome the new buildings. Vallejo Kinyon also owned this farm selling it to a man by the name of Buehl. He gave the farm to his daughter, Julia Branch. Julia passed away in Jan. 1979 so the farm went on to a niece, Mrs Bob Stewart of Homewood, Ill.
Walter annd Helena raised their four children on this place. It was nice to have Grandma and Grandpa Borland across the road and there were many little journeys back and forth. All four attended school in Peterson. The oldest son, Donald's class was the first to graduate from the newly organized district, "Sioux Valley."
Walter joined the Masonic Lodge in 1945 and is a Past Master of Welcome 536 A. F. and A. M. Lodge. He is presently township clerk and a member of ASCS committee." Pg 416-417 [PETERSON IOWA 1856 - 1980 Walsworth Publishing Company Inc. Marceline, MO 64658]
