Joseph Alfano

Services will be private for Joseph Alfano, who died March 12 at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. He was 89.

Mr. Alfano was born in Oakland. When he was 2 years old, he moved to Boulder Creek with his family, where they operated a small farm. He attended elementary school in Boulder Creek. Later, he joined the Navy and served in World War II, where he saw action in the Pacific.

He retired as an agent with the California Agriculture Commission after working for 20 years as an agent with the Department of Weights and Measures.

Mr. Alfono was an avid fly fisherman who loved the outdoors. His favorite fishing destination was the Sacramento River.

SURVIVORS: Brother George Alfano of Scotts Valley and sister Rosina Govseyeff of Israel.
