Brother of Raymond, Lloyd, Frank, and Edward Berardi.

Clayton served as a Sergeant in Company G, 2nd Marine Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 7th Fleet, U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

He resided at, and was born on, 480 Cottage Street, Rochester, Monroe County, New York prior to the war. He enlisted in the Marines on September 17, 1938 prior to the war.

He participted in the battles of Guadalcanal, New Caledonia, Bougainville, Cape Gloucester, Tarawa, Saipan and Peleliu Island.

He was previously wounded in action prior to the battle of Peleliu Island and received a Purple Heart for that wound.

Clayton was "Killed In Action" on Peleliu Island during the war and was awarded a Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster.

He was first interred overseas and later re-interred here on Wednesday, October 21, 1948.
