Billiards Player. He was considered to be the finest 9-ball player ever. Born Luther Clement Lassiter, Jr., he earned his nickname 'Wimpy' as a child because of all the wieners and orange crush he could pack away at the local pool hall in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. By the age of 17 he was already mastering the sport of billiards. During the 1960s he gained great success when he particiapted in the Jansco Brothers' All-Around Championships in Johnston City, Illinois, from 1962 to 1973. Lassiter won the straight-pool title five times, the nine-ball title four times, and the one-pocket title once. In 1962, 1963, and 1967, he won the All-Around Title, and in 1969 he won the BCA U.S. Open and in 1971, the Stardust World All-Around Championship. He was inducted into the Billiards Hall of Fame in 1983.
