U.S. Congressman. He attended Oberlin College and served in the U.S. Navy during World War I. After the war, he graduated with a law degree from the Illinois Wesleyan University, engaged in agricultural, banking, plus a member of the Ford County Farm Bureau, in 1935 and a member of the board of trustees of the Illinois Wesleyan University. In 1935, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-fourth Congress, reelected to the next nineteen succeeding Congresses and served until his resignation in 1974. Relocating to Florida, he lived in retirement until his death at age 89.
