U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Butler College, in 1885, moved to Fairbury, Nebraska, in 1887 and was superintendent of the public schools, (1887-88). He studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Fairbury. He was city clerk and attorney of Fairbury, (1889-90) and attorney of Jefferson County, (1895-99). In 1903, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-eighth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1911. Not running for re-nomination, he moved to California, practiced law and managed a chain of movie theatres until his death.
