Lathrop was born February 23, 1822, in Freedom, Cattaraugus County, New York. He died June 21, 1886, at Cosgrove, Barron County, Wisconsin, and was buried there in the Independent Cemetery, also known as Cosgrove Cemetery, Arland Township, Barron County, Wisconsin. His gravestone is inscribed "Lathrop W. Beebe Born Feb. 23, 1822 Died June 21, 1886 Sweetly Sleeping."

On December 25, 1845, Lathrop was united in marriage with Abigail E. Hancock, daughter of Jebez Hancock, by Elder Rogers, in Elton Valley, Cattaraugus County, New York. She died June 30, 1897, at Poskin, Barron County, Wisconsin. Her place of burial is unknown. Children, if any, unknown.

Lathrop was a Civil War veteran who enlisted February 17, 1862, at Fredonia, Chautauqua County, New York, to serve three years as a Private in the 105th New York Infantry. On February 24, 1862, he was mustered into Federal service with Company K at LeRoy, Genesee County, New York. At that time he was listed in the Company Descriptive Book as a 38 year old, 5'8" tall farmer, with dark hair, dark eyes and a dark complexion, born in Freedom, Cattaraugus County, New York.

On the Company K muster roll of May/June, 1862, Lathrop was listed as absent sick in General Hospital. On the Regimental Returns for June 1862, he was listed as sick at Washington, D.C. On June 3, 1862, he was given a Disability Discharge at the Cliffbourne Hospital, Washington, D.C., after it had been determined that he was incapable of performing the duties of a soldier because of rheumatism and hernias.

After his discharge, Lathrop returned to his home in New York, where he resided for six years. In 1868, he moved to Iowa, where he resided for one year. In 1869, to Downsville, Dunn County, Wisconsin, where he resided for seven years. In 1876, he moved to the vicinity of Cosgrove, Barron County, Wisconsin, where he lived out the rest of his days.

On October 8, 1885, L. W. Beebe was listed in the Barron County Chronotype of Rice Lake, as living in Clinton Township, Barron County, Wisconsin, and as having served in Company K of the 105th New York Infantry. He was also known to have lived in Prairie Farm and Barron, both in Barron County, Wisconsin, but his dates of residence there are unknown.

On April 7, 1880, Lathrop W. Beebe filed Application No. 356,079, for an Invalid Veteran's Pension, which was approved under Certificate No. 413,159. On April 1, 1887, Abigail E. Beebe filed Application No. 352,697, for a Widow's Pension, which was approved under Certificate No. 248,923.

Note from descendant: Lathrop Watson Beebe's grandson Lathrop Hanson stated in a taped interview that his grandfather's grave was the very first grave in the cemetery. The only stone that appears to be older is across to the west where the date is 1885 vs. 1886 for Beebe. The other stone is clearly a newer one, leading to questions on the actual year of burial.
