Wallace Robert Hailey (1922 - 2011)

Wallace Robert Hailey, 88, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 11, 2011. Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Funeral Home.

Wallace was born Sept. 9, 1922, in Crystal Springs, Miss. He was the son of Claude and Viola Hailey. Bob grew up in an era when a person could hitchhike without fear and random acts of violence were unheard of. He joined the Air Corps to help with World War II and as others, played an integral role in our victory. It is reported that he shot Rommell's car, and blew up an ammunition train among many other targets of opportunity. He became an excellent flight instructor with an outstanding safety record. He later chose to become a teacher and principal in the Fort Worth public schools. Bob loved football and baseball, and the mystery of music. He loved the beauty of God's creation and instilled in all of us the love of the great expanses of an open sky and the western United States, especially the Rockies. Thanks for the great trips we had with you, and thanks for giving to your family. He believed every person should try to do their best, work hard, never stop learning, be honest and upright, and above all, realize God is the final Authority. We love you and we'll see you later! "Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth!"-John Gillespie Magee Jr. His son, Bob Hailey, and a grandson, David Creed III, preceded him to their eternal home.

Survivors: Wife, Mary Kate Hailey; daughters, Beverly Wilson, Celeste Sainte-Marie and Dee Ann Creed; daughter-in-law, Marda Hailey; grandchildren, Carrie Hailey Hollingsworth, Brandon Creed, Phoebe Sainte-Marie Whitney and Jason Sainte-Marie; great- grandchild, Claire Hollingsworth; and niece, Patsy Snyder and husband, Tom.
