She was born on October 13, 1912, in Porter, Ind., to Herman F. and Esther (Sward) Wagner.
In 1936, she married Warren A. "Buck" Boyd, Sr. of Hobart. Madelyn became a registered nurse after graduating from the St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Gary, Ind.
She worked as a registered nurse before getting married and having children. Later, she worked at the Lake County Convalescent Home and as a bookkeeper for the Lowell Public Library.
She was a devoted church member at Lowell First United Methodist Church. Madelyn and her husband were avid traditional jazz enthusiasts.
Madelyn is survived by her sons Warren A. "Mike" (Elizabeth) Boyd Jr. of Cary, North Carolina and Jerry Boyd (Dennis Kniat) of Chesterton; two grandsons, Tommy Boyd and David Boyd, and her devoted friends and caregivers Charlotte Hopkins with Comfort Keepers and Peggy McConnachie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Buck, brother Tom Wagner and sister Lorene Kemp.
