Alma L. Anderson Hayes, 77, daughter of Thurman and Alice Alumbaugh Anderson, was born July 4, 1925, near Summersville. She died March 6, 2003, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston.
She attended Summersville High School. After high school, she moved to Salem where she met and married Raymond Bartlett. They had two children.
She later divorced and moved with her children to St. Louis, where she worked at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Plant.
She later married Jack Hayes, a U.S. Army helicopter technician. They lived in Germany, Texas, Colorado and other locations during the next 20 years until they retired near Houston. She worked at The Lee Co. for several years.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, attending as long as her health permitted.
She enjoyed doing needlework and crafts as long as her health permitted. She had lived at Houston House for the last 19 months, suffering from Alzheimer's Disease.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Marjorie Anderson.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Courtoif of Indiana; a son, John Ray Bartlett of Brazil; four sisters, Virginia Moritz of Montana, Frances Dacey of Kansas, Geraldine Ritchie of California and Della McCallister of Houston; and two granddaughters.
Services were March 10 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. L.J. Lowe officiating. Burial was in the Summersville City Cemetery
