U.S. Congressman. He engaged in agricultural pursuits and taught in the public schools of Hot Spring County, Arkansas, (1898-1908). He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1910 and commenced to practice in Malvern, Arkansas. He was member of the Arkansas State House of Representatives, (1909, 11) and served as prosecuting attorney of the seventh judicial circuit of Arkansas, (1913-17). In 1929, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-first, Seventy-second and Seventy-third Congresses, serving until 1935. After leaving Congress, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 84.
