Pvt Skellenger departed the U S for the battlefields of France o/a 1 Sep 1918; it is believed he died of disease (influenza aka Spanish Flu) on 12 Oct 1918 at the 45th Base Hospital, location as shown in "place of death" above.
Pvt Skellenger was a descendant of Jacobus Schellinger, (c1625-1693), who first brought the Schellinger surname from the Netherlands to the new world c1650.
Awards: WW1 Victory Medal.
Date of birth info found in two documents: Genesee Co birth record and WWI Draft Registration Card; both show year of birth as 1890.
