Mrs. Eliza B. Smith, a resident of Deal Nursing Home in Jackson for four years, died there Thursday morning. She was 86 years old.
Mrs. Smith, the former Miss Craft, was born at Neelys Landing on March 12, 1887. She was a lifelong member of New Bethel Baptist Church, east of Pocahontas.
On Aug. 29, 1901, she was married to John Cotner, who died June 22, 1930. She then married J.H. Smith on May 21, 1938, who died July 18, 1972.
Surviving: sons, Sloan Cotner and Wesley Cotner, Cape Girardeau, Harold Cotner, Dexter, and Richard Cotner, Lilbourn; daughters, Mrs. Jim Ackman and Mrs. Bill McCain, Jackson Route 4, and Mrs. Alfred Meyer, Jackson; stepsons, George Smith, Calif., Herbert Smith, Detroit, Mich., and Harvey Smith, Dearborn Heights, Mich.; stepdaughter, Mrs. Glen Schenimann, Novi, Mich.; 18 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and 16 step grandchildren.
Services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church, east of Pocahontas, by the Rev. Glenn Cummings of Cape Girardeau. Burial will be in the church cemetery with arrangements by McCombs Funeral Home.
