DWIGANS.---At her home in this city, Sunday, Dec. 15th, 1895, at 11 o'clock a.m., Mrs. Sarah Dwigans, aged 83 years.
Sarah Nutt was born in Orange county, Vt., in 1812. She was married to Stephen Ives in 1836. They moved to Ohio in 1838 and to Cedar county, Iowa, in 1855. Mr. Ives died in 1857.
In 1860 she married C. Dwigans, who died in 1875. She has lived in Tipton since coming here in 1855.
She joined the M. E. church in 1843 and continued a devoted member until her death.
Her children, four in number, all survive her, and were present at the funeral. They are Hon. John N. Ives, of Topeka, Was., Dr. Wm. Ives, of Stanwood, and Mrs. James Dwigans and Justice Kellar, of Tipton. There were also present several grandchildren.
Among those from a distance were Homer Kellar, Miss Lavisa Keller and Mrs. Sarah Hodgkinson, of Emmettsburg, Charles Kellar and wife of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. May Whitney, of Chicago.
The funeral sermon was preached Monday by Rev. L. U. McKee, from the text, "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my strength; my strength cometh from the Lord who made heaven and earth." Ps. 121:1. He defined her faith by saying that there were four great hills or mountains that stood for the four great certainties of religion. The first mountain peak was the doctrine of the Divine existence; the second was revelation; the third was salvation; the fourth was immortality. Rev. Bailey, of Stanwood, gave a brief delineation of Mrs. Dwigans' character.
