Peggy Marie Knight LeBlanc went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on August 20, 2009, in Apple Valley. She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on April 18, 1924. Marie was the youngest daughter of Jessie and Emma Hollis. She attended schools in Claremore and Disney Oklahoma.
Marie has been a resident of the Barstow area since moving here with her husband David Vanover and her family in 1938, except for a couple of moves to Richland, Washington to be with other family members.
Marie retired from managing the Red Cross in 1989. In her younger years she waitressed around Barstow, serving many Barstow residents and travelers. She loved to sew, cook, garden, and read. She volunteered in classrooms after retirement, but she mostly loved to be with family and friends.
Marie believed and relied on Jesus through all of life's up and downs.
A two time survivor of cancer, she showed us all what faith, inner strength and love is all about.
Marie was predeceased by her husband John, daughter Susan Vasquez Cole, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Surviving Marie are her children Shirley Romo, Judy Jaramillo, Jack Cole and Debbie Faulkenberry, her sister Juanita Smith and brother Roy Hollis, 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 10:00 am at Lenwood Community Church, 25104 W. Main St., in Lenwood.
