Born in County Kerry Ireland, son of Edmund and Hanora Mangan Barry, Edward emigrated to Waterbury in 1880. Edward and his bride-to-be, Bridget Carroll, worked for the Dillon family according to 1880 census. He was father of ten children including Anna, Jeremiah, Lillian, Helen, Loretta, Edward and Margaret. He was a stone mason by trade.

Edward was pre-deceased by his brother, Thomas Barry and most likely a sister, Honora. He also had two brothers, Patrick and John, and a sister, Anne, in Ireland.

Barry - The funeral of Edward Barry took place yesterday morning from his late home, 169 South Elm Street at 9:15 o'clock to the Church of the Immaculate Conception where a solemn high mass of requiem was celebrated. The following priests officiated: Rev Eugene Cryne, celebrant; Rev John Dowd, deacon; and Rev. Francis O'Shea, sub-deacon. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery and services at the grave were conducted by Rev. Francis Cryne. The pallbearers were: Harry Dunn, James Tyrrell, Edward Stack, John Fitzmaurice, John Dillon and Bernard Whitney. The out of town people at the funeral included ex-Mayor Mulvihill and Corneilius Mulvihill of Bridgeport and Mr. & Mrs. Thomas O'Connor of New York.
