US Congressman. Served in the United States Army during World War I first as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 103rd Field Artillery, then as a 1st Lieutenant and communications officer of the 151st Field Artillery Brigade. He saw combat action in France before his discharge in February 1919. Elected to represent Massachusetts' 9th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1935 to 1937. Also served as Mayor of Cambridge, Massachusetts, from 1930 to 1935.
