Frances O. (Aten) Steepleton, 74, a resident of Northbrook Manor Care Center, formerly of 3109 Sue Lane NW, died Wednesday in St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.

Born Feb. 2, 1912, at Bardolph, Ill. she married Mahlon Steepleton on June 1, 1930, at Bushnell, Ill. He died in 1976. Mrs. Steepleton was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.

Survivors include five sons, James and Gerald, both of Cedar Rapids, Stephen of Marion, Joseph of Dubuque and Patrick of Santa Rosa, Calif.; six daughters, Joyce Peachee of Waterloo, Julie Wilson, Carolyn Curtis, Joan Fox, and Janet Metz, all of Cedar Rapids, and Mary Roemig of Palo; a sister, Bessie Crawford of Bushnell, Ill.; 34 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, St. Jude's Catholic Church, by the Rev. Eugene Kutsch. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Teahan Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 7 tonight. A memorial fund has been established for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Iowa Chapter, 8033 University Blvd., Des Moines 50311.
