Percy, Iowa, January 22, 1911.
The grim reaper death has visited our neighbor hood and took one from our midst, one who was loved and respected by everybody.
Mr. J. L. Baker died at his home 1 1/2 miles west of Percy, Iowa January 17, 1911, aged 64 y 1m 5d. Mr. Baker was born in the state of Ohio, November 12, 1846. He with his parents moved to Iowa in early pioneer days. He was married to Miss Mariah Groves June 8, 1868 together they resided in Iowa the greater part of their lives. They united with the Christian church in an early day and he has lived a faithful member the remainder of life. To this union were born 9 children, 8 of whom are living one having died in infancy. He was a kind and loving husband and father. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. Short funeral services were held at the house at 2 p.m. Interment in the Cowman cemetery.
survived by 8 children: James Baker of Des Moines, Iowa; Willas Baker of Otley, Iowa; John Baker of Percy, Iowa; Charley & Edward still at home; Bell Erskin of Kirksville, Iowa; Dora Stines of Monroe, Iowa and Emma DeMoss of Eifield, Iowa.
