"Another pioneer gone. On last Monday afternoon Mrs. Anna Cass, at her home, a half mile north of Conkeytown, after a sickness of only five days, passed peacefully away. "Yes, she has gone, and her we would not deplore, for well we know she has gone, where sorrow is no more." The deceased was born in Warren County Ohio, Sept. 13, 1812. Her maiden name was Anna Wilkerson. She was married to Jas. Cass, June, 1831. In 1835 they settled in Vermilion Co., Illinois, whereby honest toil and study strife, they established for themselves and their children, 5 boys and 1 girl, a comfortable home. Mrs. Cass had been a widow 29 years. She had been a member of the Baptist church for 24 years; a Christian lady and a friend to all. Her request, that she should be kept two days after her death, before interment, was fully complied with, and she was interred in the McFarland cemetery, Wed., June 25th. Her funeral will be preached the 2nd Sunday in July, at Muncie, by Rev. Seals. The deceased had lived to a good old age, over three score years and ten. She had lived to see here children all grown up to middle age, and settled around her. She was a kind mother and a beloved neighbor. She was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who all mourn her loss, and who all have the sympathy of their many friends and neighbors.
