US Congressman. Born into a family of nine children in Massachusetts. Aime began his education in public schools, he studied at the Magnus Commercial School in Providence and Columbia University, and served in World War I in France as sergeant, first class, from 1918 to 1919. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he moved to Central Falls. His political career began in 1922 as a member of the City Commission. A year later in 1923 he was the branch president for Rhode Island Young Men's Democrat League, thus serving until 1926. He was elected as a Democrat to the United States House of Representatives from Rhode Island in 1936 and served from January, 1937 to January, 1939. In 1935, as Chief of the Rhode Island State Division of Soldiers’ Relief and as Commandant of the Rhode Island Soldier's Home. He advocated for veterans' rights and welfare. Aime sought election to the House in 1940 and won. He would win the re-elections, serving for total of twenty years, from January, 1941 to January, 1961. He served as the speaker for the Democratic National Congressional Committee in 1941, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee in 1943. Being a member of the Ways and Means Committee, he introduced comprehensive legislation to reform public assistance. He sponsored tax legislation to aid persons dependent on charitable and non-profit organizations due to their level of low-income and advocated for socialized medicine for senior citizens and disabled persons. Finally achieving his goal for better health care for seniors in 1965 when President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the “Older Americans Act,” into law under the Social Security Act. Aime was honored by local institutions, given an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree by Providence College in 1951, and inducted in the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame. He died in Florida at the age of 76.
