After many years of struggling with Parkinson 's disease, John A Bourne, 82, passed away June 9, 2011 at his home in East Garland with his loving wife by his side.

He was born September 3, 1928 in Garland, UT the son of Charles Wallace and Mattie Mabel Robinson Bourne. He attended Garland Elementary and graduated from Bear River High School and LDS Seminary. On his birthday in the year of 1947 he was given the greatest gift in marrying his high school sweetheart, Roma Jean Hill of Tremonton in the Salt Lake City Temple. They were happily married for 63 years and blessed with six children.

Our dear Husband, Father, and Grandfather was a loving and caring person who was always happiest being in the service of others. While attending high school, he served as Senior Class President, with his sweetheart Roma Jean as his Vice President. He excelled in FFA, receiving many awards. He was a farmer and shared a dairy with his brother, Charles J. He also worked at U&I Sugar Co., and later at La-Z-Boy. He also worked for 16 years with his wife as custodians for the church. He served in many church and scout callings, fulfilling each with love and dedication, touching the lives of many. He has served as ward clerk, first counselor in the bishopric, and as a high councilman. He was honored to serve as Bishop of the East Garland Ward, loving the members dearly. For 16 wonderful years he and his wife served as directors of the Baptistery in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. During his many years serving in the scouting program, he received many awards including the Award of Merit and Silver Beaver, later serving as District Chairman. He was involved in the 4-H program serving as a club leader and a livestock director at the county fair. Of all of his achievements, he would proudly say his family was his greatest, nothing gave him more joy. We will forever be grateful for his love, example, and testimony. We will strive daily to live up to the legacy he leaves behind.

Surviving are his wife; sons; Alan H (Doylene), Kevin W (Jill), daughters; Sandra (Robert) Orme, Brenda (Alan) Godfrey, and Gloria (Andy) Hunter; 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister LaNae Summers of Bothwell.

John is preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Mabel, older brother Charles J, and oldest son John Nolan.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Fielding Stake Center, 4375 West 15600 North, Fielding. Interment at Tremonton Riverview Cemetery.

The family would like to express deep appreciation to the staff of Primrose Hospice for the wonderful care they took of John A.
