MT. VERNON — Keith Dewayne Summers left this earth for his heavenly home Thursday, June 9, 2011. He was a resident of Countryside living facility prior to his passing.

Keith was born in Central Illinois on Aug. 28, 1958. His parents, Harvey and Johnnie (Newcomb) Summers from Springfield, Mo., survive. He is also survived by his daughters, Bridgette Summers and her fiancée Ryan Strine, and Hillary Summers both of Mt Vernon. He had two grand-daughters, Kileigh Irwin and Alyce Summers, both of Mt. Vernon. He had a grandson, Preston Porter, also of Mt. Vernon.

Keith was survived by three brothers, Mike (Linda) Summers of Springfield, Mo., Richard (Holly) Summers of Ozark, Mo., and Billy Clawson of Illinois; two sisters, Pat (Barry) Johns of Springfield, Mo., and Sherry (Gary) Bloomenstock of South Carolina. He had many nieces and nephews, including John Cook of Ina and aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of many special friends who he loved.

Keith was preceded in death by one daughter, Magen Summers.

Keith was a U.S. Army veteran and served honorably in Germany in an Engineering unit. He worked in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning field most of his life, in the maintenance department for the Mt. Vernon Township High School and later in the construction field.

He was a high caliber person.

Keith was a Christian and baptized in Missouri on Aug. 28, 2010.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Prayer service will follow at 7 p.m. with J. Howard Kraps officiating.

His ashes will be inurned on the grave of his daughter, Magen Summers, at Lawrenceville City Cemetery in Lawrenceville.

For those who wish, memorials may be given to The Summers Family and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
