Lynn Ellsworth Phelps, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away June 10, 2011, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Lynn was born March 23, 1928, in Menan, Idaho, the only child of Ezra James Phelps and Mary Ann Ellsworth Phelps. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School class of 1946. Lynn joined the military in 1945 and proudly served in the Idaho State Guard and in the U. S. Army as Private First Class during World War II. He was honorably discharged in June of 1947.

Lynn married Joy Neeley in Blackfoot, Idaho, on April 9, 1950. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on April 12, 1960. Five beautiful children and their spouses were born into this union: Craig Lynn (Denice), Debra Jo (John), Becky Lee (Greg), Pamela Sue ®. J.), and David James (Carla).

Lynn was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He held various positions and was active in various church functions, including Home Teacher. Lynn was a proud member of the Republican Party and worked in fund raising efforts on behalf of Presidents Eisenhower, Nixon, Reagan, and both Bush I and II. He was a lifetime member of The Distinguished Salesman and Executives International, winning numerous awards in his sales career. He owned and managed several businesses throughout his life.

For relaxation, Lynn golfed, took long drives with Joy throughout the Western United States, and loved visiting his children and grandchildren in Idaho, Oregon, and California. He was a prolific writer of poems, songs, short stories, and even books.

Survivors include his wife, Joy, his five children, fourteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and several half brothers and sisters.

Graveside Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at the Annis-Little Butte Cemetery, under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. Military Rites will be performed by the Jefferson County VFW and Idaho Honor Guard.
