DAVE DUGAS, 65, FORMER POLICE JUROR, DIES

SULPHUR - Dave Dugas, 65, a former veteran member of the Calcasieu parish police jury, died at 11:15 p.m. Monday at the West Calcasieu-Cameron hospital after a seven-day illness.

Mr. Dugas was born in the Carlyss community and lived there all of his life. He was a rice farmer and cattleman.

He served on the police jury from Ward 4 for 24 years, and was president during the last eight years of his tenure before his retirement in 1952.

At the time of his death Mr. Dugas was parole officer for the 14th judicial district.

In his early life he worked for the Union Sulphur company for 17 years. He owned and operated several businesses in Sulphur, and at one time was the owner of the McMillian and Dugas funeral home, now the Hixson funeral home.

He was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Woodmen of the World, and was a former member of the Sulphur Rotary Club.

The body is at the Hixson funeral home, where rosary will be recited by the Catholic Daughters of America at 6:30 p.m. today, and a second rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.

Requiem high mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady church. Burial will be in the Sulphur mausoleum in Roselawn cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, the former Beulah Duhon of Hackberry; two daughters, Mrs. Leon Currie of Sulphur and Mrs. A. D. Burkholder of Carlyss; a son , Alton Dugas of Sulphur; five grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. J. D. Portie of Sulphur, Miss Alice Dugas of Shreveport, Mrs. M. B. Richardson of Houston, Texas and Mrs. Alton LeBleu of Jennings; three brothers, Sona and Avis Dugas, both of Carlyss, and Dallas Dugas of Iowa, Louisiana.

Pallbearers will be Melvin Dugas, Warren Dugas, Grady Dugas, Gene Portie, James Ellender, James Carroll, Homer Lieck, and Art Glaser.
