ADAMS -- The funeral for Kenneth S. Weness will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams with the Revs. Shari A. Mason and Lydia Mittag co-officiating. Burial will be in the Six Mile Grove Lutheran Cemetery with military rites by Adams American Legion Post No. 146. Mr. Weness, 92, of Adams, died Friday (May 6, 2005) at the Adams Health Care Center.

He was born Aug. 5, 1912, in Adams Township. In 1930 he graduated from Adams High School. He worked on many area farms and his family's farm before he was drafted into the Army in 1941. He was the first person in Mower County to be drafted and he served in the Army until 1946. On Nov. 22, 1942, he married Cleonora Sampson at the St. Olaf Lutheran Parsonage in Austin. After his discharge from the military, the couple moved back to Adams where he managed the local locker plant. In 1951 they moved to Melvin, Iowa, where they owned and operated the Melvin Locker until their retirement in 1977. They moved back to Adams in 2002. They spent 22 winters in Mission, Texas, and enjoyed their three trips to Norway. Mrs. Weness died in 2002.

Mr. Weness was a longtime member of the American Lutheran Church in Melvin, Iowa, and a member of the Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams. He was also a member of the American Legion for 59 years, both at Post No. 470 in Melvin and Post No.146 in Adams.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Four brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Adams Funeral Home and on Monday at the church one hour before the service.

Funeral services for Kenneth S. Weness, 92, Adams Township, Minnesota, who died Friday, May 6, 2005 at the Adams Health Care Center, were held Monday, May 9, 2005 at Little Cedar Lutheran Church with the Rev. Shari A. Mason and the Rev. Lydia Mittag officiating.

Kenneth was born August 5, 1912 in Adams Township, Minnesota, to Erick and Martha (Gurvin) Wendess. He graduated from Adams High School in 1930. He worked on area farmers and the home place before he was drafted into the army in 1941. He was the first person in Mower County to be drafted and he served in the army until 1946.

He married Cleonora Sampson on November 22, 1942 at the St. Olaf Lutheran Parsonage in Austin. After the military they moved back to Adams where Kenneth managed the local locker plant. In 1951 they moved to Melvin, Iowa, where they owned and operated the Melvin Locker until their retirement in 1977. They moved back to Adams in 2002.

They spent 22 winters in Mission Texas and enjoyed their three trips to Norway. He was a lifelong member of American Lutheran Church in Melvin and currently a member of the Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams. He was a member of the American Legion for 59 years, Post No. 470 in Melvin and Post No, 146 in Adams.

Kenneth is survived by sisters-in-law Harriet Weness of Adams; Wilma Weness of Adams; Enid (Don) Patterson of St. Ansgar; Marilyn (Dean) Rockafellow of 51. Ansgar; Mildred (Keith) Weness of Osage; brother-in-law Russell (Gladys) Sampson of St. Ansgar; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Cleonona in 2002, four brothers and a sister.

Burial was in the Six Mile Grove Lutheran Cemetery with military rites by American Legion, Adams Post #146.
