UNSOLVED CHILD MURDER- AMBER GAIL CREEK

UPDATE: Dec 15, 2015 - A suspect has been charged with Creek's murder and will stand trial in June 2016.

Amber Gail Creek, who was also known as "Aimee", was only 14-years-old when she was murdered in 1997. She ran away from an Illinois juvenile facility in January, and her body was found near a stream in a rural wildlife area in Burlington, Wisconsin on February 7, 1997. She had been beaten, sexually assaulted and suffocated with a plastic bag. Her body was found with an upraised hand and the word "Hi" had been written on her hand with a black marker. A price tag from a bookstore in Illinois was also found stuck on her arm.

A large crowd of people who never knew Amber, but were touched by her story, attended her public funeral. Her body was laid to rest in a cemetery in Racine, Wisconsin, with a headstone marked "Jane Doe" for over a year. It took the persistent work of dedicated detectives to finally discover Amber's identity.
