The Rev. John Alleyne Howell who for 14 years was rector of the Episcopal Church in Ballston Spa, died Saturday afternoon [4 April] at his home, 16 East Notre Dame, Glens Falls. The Rev. Mr. Howell who retired several years ago had lived in Bolton and Glens Falls since then.

During his more than 50 years in the ministry, he had served churches in Cincinnati, Oh.; Erie, Pa.; Golden, Colo.; Nyack and Philadelphia.

Surviving are his [2nd] wife, Mrs. Mabel Noxon Howell; a son, the Rev. Norman S. Howell, Tarriffville, Conn.; a brother, the Rev. Alleyne C. Howell, Philadelphia, retired; a sister, Miss Louise Howell, Philadelphia; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Church of the Messiah, Glens Falls, the Requiem Mass being celebrated by the Rt. Rev. Frederick L. Barry, bishop of the Episcopal diocese of Albany. Burial will be in the Ballston Spa Cemetery. Friends have been asked to omit flowers.
