John V. Bleyaert, 73, of Milan, passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at the Mercer County Hospital, Aledo.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Burial is at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan.
John was born on June 18, 1937, in Moline, a son of John and Phyllis Phelps Bleyaert. He graduated from Alleman High School and married Sally Pannell on Dec.1, 1956, in Moline.
He retired from Holland Motor Express and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 371.
John was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. He was a former volunteer firefighter with the Blackhawk Fire Protection District and was a past president of the Milan Little League. John was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Survivors include his wife, Sally; four children, John (Sue), Julie (Bob) Burns, Jerry (Sandi Fitzpatrick) and Jody Taylor (Dan Kennedy); grandchildren, Jenny Rivera (Justin Beck), Beth (Troy) Benedict, Spencer Taylor (Emily McDaniel), Jerry Jr. (Brittany DeRoin), Stephanie, Sara and Alyssa Bleyaert, Kevin VanWatermeulen, Ashley Dunkirk and Neely Fitzpatrick; great-grandchildren, Mason, Madalyn, Ian, Tyler, Justin, Aoife, Kessler and TJ; and special friends, Louie and Jeanie Chapman. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Jera Bleyaert; great-grandson, Maddux Taylor; twin brother, Phillip, and brothers Tom, and Richard.
