Inventor. Born in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, he was working at the Rochester Agricultural Works in New York, when he received several U.S. patents for his mechanisms used on the horse-drawn reaping machines. In the late 1870s, he was designing and installing burglar-proof vaults for banks, when he took an interest in voting machines. In 1888, he invented the first voting machine to utilize a mechanical lever, which became know as the "Myers Automatic Booth". He died in 1920, at age 71 and by the 1930s, his mechanical lever voting machines were installed in major cities all across the U.S.
