Hannah was the daughter of Isaac Betts, from a well to do Norwalk family, and his wife Elizabeth Griffeth also of Norwalk CT. Hannah's brother Stephen was a Militia Captain during the Revolution in CT.
She married Stephen Fitch, a member of the newly formed Continental Army under George Washington, of Wilton CT on 22 September 1779 and had at least ten children.
After the Revolution lands to the "west"(central NYS)were opened up to settlement by veterans with land grants, and speculators like William Cooper(founder of Cooperstown, NY in Otsego county)
Family lore says Hannah, tiring of a constant diet of rye bread, urged her husband to move west where they could grow wheat. They came to Otsego County NY by 1790, where they settled on a farm between the village of Fly Creek and Pierstown, NY.
Hannah died in 1809, 20 years before her husband, of unknown causes. She was buried at the Fitch Hill Cemetery in Otsego County with many other family members.
