RETIRED MINISTER CLAIMED BY DEATH.
RACELAND, THE REV. JAMES BUTLER SCAFF 71 OF MELROSE ADDITION DIED THURSDAY AT 1 P.M. AT OUR LADY OF BELLEFONTE HOSPITAL HE WAS A RETIRED MINER AND AN INTERDENOMINATIONAL MINSTER. MORE RECENTLY HE HAD BEEN EMPLOYED AS A CUSTODIAN AT ABKEN AIRPORT. MR. SCAFF HAD BEEN EMPLOYED AS A MINER 35 YEARS IN WEST VIRGINIA MINING AREA.
HE WAS BORN AT YORK, GREENUP COUNTY; MARCH 14, 1885, A SON OF THE LATE WILLIAM AND MELVINIA JEFFERSON SCAFF. THE BODY IS AT THE EVANS FUNERAL HOME WHERE FRIENDS MAY CALL AFTER 4 P.M. TODAY FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE CONDUCTED AT THE FUNERAL HOME SATURDAY AT 2:30 P.M. BY THE REV, E.A. CURRY PASTOR OF THE TWENTY FIRST STREET TABERMACLE OF ASHLAND, BURIAL WILL BE IN DIXON CEMETERY AT WESTWOOD; HE IS SUVIVED BY HIS WIFE MRS. EFFIE SCAFF. ONE SON JOHN SCAFF OF MORGANTOWN, W,VA. ONE DAUGHTER MRS. JOSEPHINE SEXTON OF DETROIT, MICH,TWO SISTERS MRS MARY LACY OF CANNEL CITY, KY. AND MISS BETH SCAFF OF CLEVELAND , OHIO. ONE HALF BROTHER CHARLIE SCAFF OF PORTSMOUTH, OHIO. ONE SON FLOYD. PRECEDED HIM IN DEATH. FOURTEEN GRANDCHILDREN AND NINETEEN GREAT GRANDCHILDREN ALSO SURVIVE.
