Emma-7 A. was the daughter of Ansel-8 Crippen and his wife Marilla Paddock.

5 CRIPPEN siblings: Millard Filmore, Henry L., Isaac, William Harrison, Ernest M., and [Self].

All of her five brothers joined as Privates in the Civil War, Co. I, 9th Infantry, as did her husband 1) Peter Ackerman.

Emma married 1) Peter Ackerman in 1860, who died in 1865.
Emma resumed her maiden name of Crippen.

Emma married 2) Andrew Darwin Smith (1842-1927) on December 27, 1866 at Howell, Livingston, MI, marriage record (Liber 2-p. 197). In this same record, A. Darwin Smith was called "of Coldwater, MI".

2. Leo C. Smith, born January 5, 1882, died on January 31, 1939 in Los Angeles, CA. About Leo: he married on October 11, 1906 Dorothy Martin, place unknown. The family record says he was murdered. Unknown if he had children.

Emma's 2nd husband, A. Darwin Smith, was born 1834 and died January 31, 1927 at Marion, IN. He was a Doctor and his obituary stated that he graduated from the Cleveland Ohio medical college, later known as Ohio State University. He practiced medicine for some time, but had been retired for 20 years, living at Marion, Indiana. He was living in Brighton, Livingston, MI at the time that he married Emma Crippen.
