Duane Dutton Osborne was born August 18, 1910 at Carroll, Iowa to Nicholas Wellington Osborne and Anna Orchit Dutton Osborne. He graduated from Terril High School in 1929.
On June 2, 1937 he married Alma Oteila Vagle at the Methodist Church in Terril. During his working life he was a farmer, manager/part owner of a grain elevator, was head custodian of Spirit Lake Schools for 21 years and drove school bus for 30 years.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Spirit Lake where he served as Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee and usher. He was a Past Master of Twilight Lodge #329 (lifetime member) and Past Patron of Twilight Chapter #59, Order of the Eastern Star.
Duane passed away on October 4, 2009 at Hilltop Care Center, Spirit Lake, Iowa at the age of 99.
He is survived by his wife Alma; sons, Robert (Mary Ann), Wilmot, SD, James, Spirit Lake, William (Diane), Milford, IA and Dennis (Don Raymond), Mesa, AZ; daughters, Annette Schaeffer (David), Spencer, IA and Nancy Ranum (Gary), Spirit Lake; 7 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 8 step great grandchildren; 1 step great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, 2 grandsons, 1 daughter-in-law, 6 sisters-in-law, 4 brothers-in-law, 1 step grandson.
