Services for Craig Torbett Gaines, 56, of 2301 Midwestern Parkway will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Crestview Memorial Park with the Rev. Merwin Turner, associate pastor of Floral Heights United Methodist Church, officiating.

Gaines was killed Tuesday in a one-car accident near Sallisaw, Okla., the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Gaines, a native Wichitan, attended public schools here and received a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering from Texas A&M University. He was a licensed professional engineer.

Since retiring from United Electric Co. in 1984, Gaines had been raising quarter horses. He was known among jazz musicians as a drummer and bass player. A ham radio operator, Gaines was cited for his community service after the 1964 tornado that damaged Sheppard Air Force Base.

Gaines belonged to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, The Mavericks, Faith Lodge and Maskat Temple. He held the 32nd degree K.C.C.H. in Scottish Rite. He was a Century Club member of the Association of Former Students of Texas A&M.

Survivors, all of Wichita Falls, include his wife; a son Craig T. Gaines; a daughter, Betty G. Ross; his father, Sydney A. Gaines; a sister, Mrs. Maurice McCall; and three grandsons.

Arrangements are under direction of Hampton-Vaughn Funeral Home.

The family will be at 2016 Keeler.

Craig Gaines married Mary Jane "Janie" Sheffield in 1951 and they had two children: Craig Torbett "Craigo" Gaines and Betty Jane Gaines Ross. Craig and Janie divorced in 1984 and Craig remarried. As of 2014 Craig had four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
