He was the son of Samuel Higginbotham, Sr. and Jane Satterwhite, dau. of John Satterwhite. He m/1 Ann Staunton Higginbotham (a 1st cousin once removed) on 17 Dec. 1792 in Amherst Co., VA. She was the dau. of John Higginbotham and Rachael Banks. He m/2 Martha Ricks and m/3 Sarah Lawrimore. No children from the third marriage.

Grave of John Satterwhite Higginbotham in Higginbotham Family Cemetery. Grave was marked by the Elbert Co., GA DAR in the mid-1900's. I, personally, do not believe that he was old enough to have served in the Rev. War. He was b. 1770 and married for the first time in 1792.

John could not have been in the Revolutionary War because he was born in 1770. A descendant of his was said to have pressed the DAR to mount the stone without valid proof. If he had served in 1779-1780, he would have only been 9 or 10. No records were found to support military enlistment.
