Donald McNair, 81, of Pensacola, died Tuesday, June 07, 2011 at a local hospital. Don was born August 18, 1929 in Pensacola to Clarence McNair and Claudia Moore McNair. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954 aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard. Don retired from Arizona Chemical after 38 years of service. He was a Shriner and Mason. Don was a long time member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Helen McNair; children, Barbara (Tony) Szakacs, James Lindsey, Mitchell (Linda) Lindsey, Linda Fickes and Mary (Duane) Myers; two grandchildren of which he raised as his own, Tommy Fickes and Michelle Cormany; and nine other grandchildren, Cheryl Whitley, Phyllis Jones, Melanie Hopper, Randy Lindsey, Bradley Lindsey, Kim Hill, Eric Myers, Amie Rosa and Michael Lindsey; special four legged dog Chopstix; his twin sister, Dorothy Comeford; and several family members and loving friends. Don was a wonderful husband, father and PawPaw to his family. He was a kind and gentle man who never complained and always put his family's needs and wants before his own. We will miss him so very much, but will be reunited with him again in Heaven. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Monday, June 13, 2011 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Dr. Alton Butler officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Monday. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Baptist Hospital CCU staff, especially nurse Terri Shofner for excellent care and compassion. Also our sincere gratitude to Drs. Jaalouk, Allmon and Carter for their care during his acute illness; and Drs. Harlin, Kaffie and Dennis Peters for their care in the past along with Dr. Manning Hanline for his many years of care. OAK LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 619 New Warrington Road is in charge of arrangements.
