KARTHMAN, JOSEPH DANIEL, SR., born August 20, 1922, final rest, June 7, 2011. He was born in Louisville and served his country in World War II as a member of the Army Air Corps. He was a graduate of Purdue University and married Mary Virginia Squires in 1949. They were married for more than 50 years until her death in 2006. He was father to six children and grandfather to nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara K. Karthman. He was survived by his sons, Joseph D. Karthman Jr. and LeRoy A. Karthman; and daughters, Mary K. Yosifov, Karen A. Smith, and Bridget K. Noel. He will be sadly mourned and missed. He believed in simplicity; in accordance with his request, there will be no visitation or ceremony and his remains will be cremated. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hosparus. Highlands Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
